As Spider-Man: Far From Home begins filming, the rumors are flying. Fans are buzzing about the possible arrival of Miles Morales in this upcoming installment. This has been rumored for quite some time now, but the most recent hints have fans excited.
The first clue came in the form of casting news. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has been confirmed for the upcoming movie. Fans have been speculating she will play either Jean Grey or Gwen Stacy. The latter is especially interesting as there is already a Marvel Comics version of the character who is co-lead of the Spider-Verse films.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse revealed that the multiverse may play a role in this sequel. Considering the way Spider-Man: No Way Home ended and the fact that the film is the only one announced to release between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, there could be some more multiversal shenanigans this time around.
A fan theory suggests that the Spider-Man who bites Miles in the future in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was actually from another universe. This would explain why he was a pariah in his own universe. The theory goes on to suggest that this other Spider-Man is the reason for Miles killing Miguel O’Hara in his own universe.
This could be the basis for a major conflict between our Spider-Man and his counterpart. The reversal of roles could lead to Miles taking over as Spider-Man for his universe.
Another possibility is that the film will focus on a more traditional storyline. The last film in the trilogy was quite different from the original Into the Spider-Verse story, which has left fans wanting a more traditional Spider-Man movie.
There is also the potential that the film will feature a return of some of the villains from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and from past Holland films. Specifically, fans are hoping to see Ned Beatty back as the Hobgoblin, Toomes returning as the Vulture, Gargan playing Scorpion or Venom, and perhaps Chameleon and Prowler.
Finally, there is the chance that the film will connect to the events of the X-Men franchise in some way. Kevin Feige has been hinting that the X-Men will become more integral to the MCU Phase 5 after Avengers: Endgame. Spider-Man 4 is scheduled to release in 2021, which is right before the X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie.
There is even a rumor that Brie Larson will appear as Captain Marvel in Spider-Man 4. This makes sense given the director of the film, Destin Daniel Cretton, worked with her on Shang-Chi. Her brief appearance in that film also set the stage for her to cross over into other heroes’ movies. Plus, she is a natural choice for a recruiter.
