One of the big mysteries surrounding Loki Season 3 is how it will tie into the Multiverse Saga. One theory suggests that the God of Mischief will travel back or view different timelines where his actions caused horrendous destruction.
During an interview with CinePop at D23 Brazil, Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum teased that there is “always a chance” that the God of Mischief could return for another season on Disney+.
Potential Storylines
The Loki Season 2 finale felt like a proper series ending for Tom Hiddleston. With the God of Mischief embracing his responsibilities as the keeper of timelines, he was essentially left on his own to watch over everything. That doesn’t mean the MCU won’t bring back Hiddleston, however, as Marvel has a habit of surprising fans with reunions and new appearances for beloved characters.
During an interview with CinePop at D23 Brazil this past November, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum was asked about the possibility of a third season of Loki. While he didn’t specifically rule out a third season, Winderbaum did joke that “there’s always a chance” for more adventures with the Time Lord.
There are many ways in which a Loki Season 3 could connect to the MCU’s future phases. One popular theory is that the show’s branched timelines will allow the God of Mischief to revisit classic MCU moments in secret. That would give audiences the opportunity to see what it was like when the Avengers were at their weakest and the Multiverse Saga had yet to unfold.
Additionally, a Loki Season 3 could focus on the MCU’s Anchor Beings. While Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X have already been seen as Anchor Beings, the identity of Kang the Conqueror’s is still a mystery. A Loki Season 3 that explores the Multiverse could finally reveal who is responsible for Kang’s existence.
Returning Cast
Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has been through a lot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from his debut as a villain to losing his godly powers in Avengers: Infinity War to finally regaining them in the 2024 TV series. That final episode gave the Trickster God a glorious purpose as he united all timelines by merging with Yggdrasil, the World Tree. That selfless act was a fitting end to the second season of the McU’s highest-rated show.
However, that doesn’t mean the Multiverse Saga is over with. A rumor earlier this year stated that the show would return with an all-new story that explores “the implications of free will and destiny.” If that is true, it could provide a great launchpad for a new season of Loki that delves into those themes even further.
Besides Hiddleston, the series also starred Owen Wilson as Mobius and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie. The first season also featured a number of guest stars, including Rafael Casal as Victor Timely and Ke Huy Quan as Ouroboros.
If there is a third season of the hit Netflix show, many of these same actors are expected to return. In addition to the main cast, there’s also a possibility that Wunmi Mosaku will reprise his role as Hunter B-15 and Eugene Cordero will return as Casey.
Kang?s Role
As the MCU continues to explore its Multiverse, Loki?s story remains a crucial one. The God of Mischief went from a selfish and greedy character to a selfless savior who sacrificed himself to save the multiple timelines of the Multiverse. He ultimately took on the name?He Who Remains? and ascended to a throne at the end of Loki Season 2.
That sacrifice has left Kang as a powerful threat who could be an integral part of Marvel?s future phases. He has a lot in common with Doctor Doom, including their love of chaos and power. That means the MCU could use him as a looming antagonist for several new films and TV shows in the future.
In Loki, He Who Remains fought for the Multiverse by conquering and killing various Kang variants from different timelines. He did this because he wanted to ensure that no one else could compete with him in his quest to rule the multiverse.
In addition to his time-traveling and world-conquering abilities, He Who Remains has access to a wealth of futuristic weapons and technology. He also has impressive hand-to-hand combat skills and is able to predict the actions of those around him. These skills allow him to intimidate and befuddle heroes like Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyne and Hank Pym.
Release Expectations
While the second season of Loki ended in a satisfying way, it left the door open for more Multiverse Saga adventures. And fans are eager for them. At a recent event in Brazil, Marvel Studios head of streaming Brad Winderbaum teased the possibility of a third installment to the series, sparking excitement among viewers. He didn’t confirm anything, but he did joke that “there’s always a chance” of another round of Tom Hiddleston’s zany mischief.
One fan theory suggests that a third season of the show will see Loki encounter multiple versions of himself, possibly traveling back or viewing moments from alternate timelines where his actions have resulted in terrible destruction. This could help him realize the error of his ways and become the selfless antihero fans have come to love in the main timeline.
Another possibility is that a third season could see the God of Mischief team up with other Anchor Beings, the alien gods who rule various alternate universes. The first season of the series introduced one called Hunter X-05, a variation on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine from Earth-10005. It’s possible that the other anchor beings are Doctor Strange and Spider-Man, but a new Loki arc could introduce them and bring them together in an ultimate superhero team.
