Superman’s clear, confident artistic vision resonates better than VFX gimmicks and pop-culture references. If the DCEU leaned into that kind of tone and style, it could deliver individual stories that satisfy in the moment while building a larger narrative.
Thor is able to pierce Superman with his lightning but doesn’t have the raw strength or durability to do much else. Even his hammer wouldn’t help against a blast from Superman’s heat vision.
Powers
Superman has a lot of different powers including super strength, flight, x-ray vision, heat vision (which in the Snyder cut of Man of Steel appeared as two red lines rather than transparent heat waves like Silver Age era) and telekinesis. He also has a force field and he can rip through objects with his hands.
He can fly at speeds faster than the speed of light, he can see through objects using his x-ray vision and he can create heat by touching them which he uses to burn Kryptonian metals in his Fortress of Solitude. He can also freeze the air around him and create ice shards with his breath.
MCU Thor is significantly stronger and has more destructive potential than DCU Superman. He has been shown to be able to tank planetary level explosions with minimal damage and has displayed god tier durability when he forges Stormbreaker from the Power Stone. He also has a powerful axe and can destroy Thanos’s armor with one swing. MCU Thor also has better speed and agility than DCEU Superman and can effortlessly block shots from weapons with his axe.
Strengths
Thor is a god of thunder and has the powers of lightning, wind, and rain. He can generate powerful blasts of electricity and use his weapons, like Mjolnir or Stormbreaker, to amplify his strength.
He can also fly at incredible speeds, giving him a strategic advantage in battles. He can also withstand immense amounts of damage and survive extreme environments, such as the vacuum of space.
In terms of brute strength, Thor is one of the strongest MCU characters, easily able to lift gigantic amounts of weight and send monsters flying. He can also withstand immense amounts of force and is virtually unstoppable when in full Odin Force or Runic Mode.
Thor is also incredibly durable, having tanked the burning temperature of 2.7 million Kelvin and the reversal of gravity that is 200 Billion times stronger than Earth’s. He can also withstand immense amounts if energy, including the blasts from the destroyer and ultron’s death rays that travel at light speed. He can even withstand a neutron star to the face. He can also resurrect himself from the dead with ease.
Weaknesses
Thor is one of the most muscular heroes in the MCU and has impressive power and durability. He also has a magical hammer that can fly and summon powerful cracks of lightning.
But while he is extremely powerful, Thor does have some weaknesses. He is very headstrong and can get overconfident, which has led to some bad decisions in the past. For example, he took the threat of Hela lightly when they first clashed and was nearly decapitated. He also has a tendency to fall for trickery from Loki.
Another weakness is that he can’t breathe in space. This is a big problem when fighting supervillains and alien invaders. It’s also an issue when he has to fight other gods and sorcerers.
Past Battles
For generations, fans have argued over which superhero is the strongest. While Superman is often considered the gold standard of strength due to his planetary size and bottomless power reserve, Thor has shown incredible raw strength in the past. He’s pulled planets and punched people into orbit with his hammer Mjolnir, which makes him a formidable opponent in battle.
In the past, Thor has fought some of Marvel’s biggest Super-Heavyweights in epic battles. One of the most notable fights occurred when Thor squared off with the Hulk in a legendary rumble. This fight was so massive in scope and grandeur that it made this pair of heroes into the legends that they are today.
Another famous fight was when Thor faced Mangog in Asgard. This is one of the most intense battles that Marvel has ever published, with both heroes pushing themselves to the limit. Ultimately, Mangog was defeated by Thor’s anti-force and blasts inside his body. But even after this victory, Odin was furious with Thor for going against his wishes and returning to Earth. He sent Seidring the Merciless to drain him of half his strength.
Fan Opinions
Fans are divided on whether or not Superman should win against MCU Thor, but the facts are in: The God of Thunder is one of the strongest heroes to ever exist in pop culture. He can lift planets and even break the laws of physics with his physical might.
He also has the mystical weapon Mjolnir, which allows him to manipulate lightning and other weather conditions. This could prove useful in a fight against Superman, who conducts electricity.
MCU Thor has recently been given an immense power upgrade thanks to his kingship and the death of Odin. He has already proven himself against the likes of Galactus and Thanos.
Still, while his physical might is impressive, Thor does have a few weaknesses. He’s prone to recklessness and his ego can lead him into dangerous situations. He also has trouble controlling his emotions, which can be a problem when facing an overpowered opponent. Lastly, his hammer has been shown to have incredible durability. The enchanted weapon was able to withstand the full force of a Nuke fireball.
