Marvel is taking NYCC 2025 by storm with can’t-miss panels, cosplay meetups, and even a new merch booth!
The event kicked off with a panel on Marvel Television. Head of TV and animation Brad Winderbaum announced Season 2 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, with a release date set for Fall 2026.
Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing
Marvel pulled out all the stops for Saturday’s Next Big Thing panel, giving fans a look at the future of its entire line. Editor-in-Chief C. B. Cebulski was joined by VP & Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, Ultimate Editor Wil Moss, and writers Stephanie Phillips, Ryan North, Julius Ohta, Benjamin Percy, and Deniz Camp for a packed session highlighting big reveals and bold new directions.
The panel opened with a preview of the forthcoming Punisher Red Band from writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Julius Ohta, teasing a gritty take on the character as Frank Castle returns with amnesia and only his instincts to guide him. Next up was a work-in-progress image of Reed Richards and Doctor Doom facing off in a clash over their roles as Sorcerer Supreme, with the latter kneeling among the bones of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. It was then revealed that the resulting status quo would play out across multiple titles, starting with this November’s Dungeons of Doom miniseries from Philip Kennedy Johnson, Ben Percy, Carlos Magno, Robert Gill, Justin Mason, and Georges Jeanty.
Also kicking off in November is the Planet She-Hulk ongoing from writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Aaron Kuder, followed in December by Nova: Centurion from Jed MacKay and Alvaro Lopez. And the larger universe will continue to reverberate from this year’s ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM as the aftermath plays out in titles like this week’s Ultimate Incursion, and then next year’s Imperial War event.
Marvel Animation: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Marvel’s first panel of the day featured a special screening of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 — a look at Peter Parker taking on a gooey black symbiote that looks suspiciously like Venom. Head of Marvel Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum introduced the trailer, with voice actors Hudson Thames (Peter), Kari Wahlgren (Aunt May) and Aleks Lemieux (Nico Minoru) also on hand to provide their thoughts.
While there’s no official release date, fans can expect a new episode to drop soon. The animated series is set in an alternate timeline from the main MCU films and TV shows, with Norman Osborn becoming Peter’s mentor instead of Tony Stark. Its 3D cel-shaded animation pays homage to early Spider-Man comic book art by Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr., with Mel Zwyer serving as showrunner and executive producer.
Also on the Marvel Animation stage, Winderbaum brought on X-Men: The Animated Series creators Eric and Julia Lewald to reveal an official release date of season 2. They also offered some details about the upcoming storyline, with Lewald teasing that the team is working on a “horrific” episode for the second half of the year.
There will be plenty of MCU and comics panels for fans to check out throughout the weekend, including MARVEL COMICS: Comics to Screen at 5pm in North Room 405. Conductor of X Tom Brevoort and Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski will host a deep dive into the X-Men ‘Age of Revelation’ storyline and more.
Marvel Animation: X-Men ’97
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has made it clear he loves the X-Men, and that enthusiasm extends to the animation realm. The studio’s animated offerings — including alt-universe Spidey series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and X-Men 97 — have all been big hits, and with their Season 2 renewals, it looks like they’re here to stay.
X-Men ’97, the animated continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series, has been a hit since its 2024 premiere. The show’s writers, led by Beau DeMayo until his firing just days before the series premiered, have created an era-spanning story that’s as fun and hammy as the original cartoon was.
While the first season of X-Men ’97 introduced us to a core group of mutant heroes (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Magneto, Rogue, Bishop, and Beast), there’s no doubt that the team will grow even larger in Season 2. As the mutants travel through time, they’re sure to meet new characters, including the villainous En Sabah Nur who transforms into the mega-hero Apocalypse.
Of course, the most important addition to the X-Men ’97 lineup will be Psylocke, who is expected to make her debut in the upcoming season. Fans at NYCC 2025 spotted the character participating in a team-up photo-op with her mutant peers, and she’s reportedly set to join the cast for Season 2. Whether it’s to add more depth to the story or to allow the show to explore a different side of the superheroes, Marvel hasn’t yet confirmed her inclusion.
Marvel Television: Up Next
In addition to announcing new seasons of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and X-Men ’97, Marvel also dropped some big news for the future of television. 2026 is shaping up to be a busy year for the studio, with three live-action films (Daredevil: Born Again with Charlie Cox and Ironheart with Dominique Thorne) and three TV series (Thunderbolts* with Florence Pugh and The Fantastic Four: First Steps with Pedro Pascal, plus Wonder Man with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Sir Ben Kingsley).
Feige kicked things off with a surprise announcement that Armor Wars would be coming to the small screen in fall 2026. Written by Black Monday’s Yassir Lester, the show will see Tony Stark’s worst fears come to life when bad actors get their hands on his most powerful weapons, with only Colonel James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) in a position to stop them.
Also in the works is a Disney+ series centering on Nova, the Guardians of the Galaxy’s cosmic hero who has yet to appear in live-action. Moon Knight scribe Sabir Pirzada is on board to write the series, which is set in Xandar following the destruction of its capital city Ronan.
Lastly, the Marvel Television panel dropped some major news on WandaVision, which will center on Paul Bettany’s White Vision and his struggle to regain the memories the Hex Vision imparted to him. The show was originally slated to debut in 2022, but it keeps getting pushed back, most recently as part of a larger restructuring at the studio that will refocus its development calendar on movies and long-form content.
