As the hit Prime Video series approaches its end, creator Eric Kripke has teased that Season 5 will be a wild ride. From Jensen Ackles’ return to the chaos of Soldier Boy, there are so many big moments to anticipate.
Despite the fact that The Boys often leans into shock value, it’s still a show that knows how to balance the two.
1. Character Returns
From explosive rectums to newfound familial ties, The Boys is constantly pushing characters and audiences. Season five should be no exception. If Butcher survives this season, he’ll be up against a lot of people. First, there’s the Guardians of Godolkin. Starlight and A-Train are recruiting them to join the resistance against Butcher, but they’ll also need other ex-Seven allies like Queen Maeve, who escaped Butcher by faking her death at the end of season four.
Lastly, there’s the Deep. He’s one of the most terrifying villains in The Boys, and his gruesome torture experiments are always shocking. He may have killed a few supes in the past, but he’s still able to make even the most innocent creatures die with his horrific torments.
Jaz Sinclair’s Marie Moreau is back in The Boys for the fifth and final season, and creator Eric Kripke confirmed at Comic-Con 2025 that Gen V and The Boys will be connected. Stan Edgar also returns in Gen V season 2, and his presence will tie into the finale. Combined with a potential return of Cipher and connections to Vought International, The Boys finale promises to be a bloodbath that no character will escape unscathed.
2. Shocking Plot Twists
Whether or not you liked the end of The Boys Season 4, it set up some pretty big things for the finale. The satirical superhero series is one of the most daring on TV, and it seems like it will continue to push new boundaries with its final season.
Among other things, it looks like the show will dive into what happens when the Boys start to lose their power. Footage from Comic-Con 2025 shows Homelander addressing a nation under his rule, and that could be an indicator of how the final season will unfold.
Additionally, Gen V Season 2 ended with Starlight escaping Vought’s clutches, and Jaz Sinclair’s Marie Moreau will return for The Boys Season 5. That means that the two shows will be more interconnected than ever. The resolution to the Thomas Godolkin mystery could also have a big impact on The Boys finale.
3. Epic Action Scenes
Over the course of The Boys, viewers have witnessed a wide range of unexpected events. From explosive rectums to newfound familial ties, the writers have built a series that thrives on going further than audiences expect. As the show nears its end, it’s time for all the twists to finally come to a head.
The finale of The Boys will likely bring the end to many of the main characters. The series has been known to kill off characters in disgustingly gruesome ways, so it’s safe to assume that some of our favorite crew members will be killed (probably in very gory and dramatic ways) at the finale.
Thankfully, if the upcoming season does end in tragedy for some of our favorite stars, that doesn’t mean The Boys universe is done for. Prime Video has already started branching out with spinoffs like Gen V and Vought Rising, so we can expect the story to continue in some way in 2026. But for now, let’s hope that season 5 is a blood-soaked, action-packed ride that’ll leave audiences satisfied.
4. A Happy Ending
The Boys — both the team and show – isn’t built for happy endings. In fact, if all goes well with the spin-off Gen V, it might be the last time fans get to see some of these beloved characters (unless there’s a revival down the line).
Karl Urban’s Butcher went on a bloody rampage in season 4 as he tried to wipe out all the supes. He managed to kill Frenchie, Kimiko and MM, leaving Hughie as the only surviving member of The Boys crew.
Maddie Phillips’ Cate is the telepathic college student who confronted both Kimiko and Frenchie at the end of season 4. She has a strong relationship with her boyfriend Hughie and is an important member of The Boys.
Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy is returning to The Boys for season 5. It appears that his father-son reunion with Homelander will dig deeper into their dynamic. It’s hard to say what will happen with other characters from the main series, including Black Noir and Polarity. But with the spin-off already confirmed for a second season, the world of The Boys will continue, one way or another.
5. The Finale
With every season, The Boys has gotten more shocking and brutal. Season 5 will surely be no exception, with Mitchell and other cast members saying it’ll be the darkest one yet. Showrunner Eric Kripke has teased that it will be “bloody” and filled with gore.
With a bigger scope this season, there are bound to be big fights and a lot of shocking plot twists. Kripke has already teased that the team might kill Butcher, but it’s hard to know if they can pull it off. They might find a way to thwart his plans, though, with new threats tied to Olivia Morandin and hints that Cipher is hiding Godolkin University secrets.
It’s also not likely that the team will walk away with a happy ending, as the comic books and TV show haven’t been built for those kind of endings. But, with the upcoming season set to close up a major chapter of the Boys universe, the finale could be an intense and dramatic one. The final season will bring back all the main characters, with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins returning as guest stars.
