The Boys spinoff Gen V has been renewed for a second season, so the universe will continue to expand. At Comic-Con 2024, Prime Video revealed a new promo that features Supernatural star Jensen Ackles returning as Soldier Boy.
Antony Starr’s wildcard supe Homelander went from corporate poster child to unofficial leader of the country in last year’s finale, and he has unlimited powers at his disposal heading into Season 5. Also, Annie/Starlight (Erin Moriarty) left the Seven, joined the Boys, and gathered a following of her own.
Latest News & Updates
The final season of The Boys won’t pick up right where the previous one left off, instead taking place after Gen V season 2. Showrunner Eric Kripke announced this during SDCC 2024. He went on to say that the two shows will be closely linked and that Gen V “will really help set up a climax in The Boys” that will end the main storyline.
In addition to a new timeline, the fifth and final season of The Boys will add a few more cast members to its ensemble. This includes Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Antony Starr as John Gillman/Homelander, and Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki in unknown roles. The final season of the show also stars Karl Urban as Dr. Michael Landers, Maddie Phillips as Godolkin University student Cate Dunlap, and Erin Moriarty as a pro-Homelander enforcer.
Kripke also revealed that The Boys will explore more of Soldier Boy’s relationship and feelings toward his son, Homelander. He teased that the pair will have a very different father-son talk in this upcoming season, and we can only imagine it’ll be less destructive than their last talk back in season 3.

There are many theories circulating around the internet regarding what will happen in season 5. One theory is that Butcher’s hallucinations will become more frequent and intense, possibly leading to his downfall. Another theory is that the new season will see the Boys tackling some of the bleakest plot points yet, including the death of one of their own.
Fans will also be happy to hear that a new spinoff series called Gen V is on its way. The college-centered supe show will launch in 2023 and will pour over into The Boys’ superhero universe. Already, some of the characters from Gen V have appeared in The Boys’ last two seasons, including Cate Dunlap and her betrayal of Homelander.
Trailer Breakdown
Karl Urban reprises his role as Billy Butcher, a brutal former spy determined to bring down Vought and rid the world of superheroes (aka “supes”). This season sees Butcher’s plans escalate after he learns that Temp-V isn’t just wreaking havoc on his body but also affecting his mind. Consequently, he starts hallucinating about his former colleague Joe Kessler.
Also returning are Tomer Capone as Serge/Frenchie, a tech expert and chemist who uses his skills to fight supes; Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro, a deadly fighter whose ability not to speak is offset by her brutal fighting skills; and Jessie T. Usher as Reggie Franklin/A-Train, a speedster of The Seven who is fed up with his superhero status and turns informant for The Boys in season 4. Gen V star Maddie Phillips will also appear in this season as Cate Dunlap, a Godolkin University student with telepathic powers who puts her abilities to the test in a series of dangerous experiments.
In addition, Stranger Things alum Daveed Diggs is set to join the cast as Bombsight, a supe who can project deadly tentacles from her face. The trailer also gives us a peek at new characters, including Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie), a Vought executive who rises to the position of CEO and may have gained superpowers after being injected with Compound V in season 4.
Release Date Info
After a rocky start, The Boys has become one of the most critically acclaimed shows on Prime Video. And while The Boys Season 5 might be its last, the franchise will live on with a number of spinoffs and an established cast of characters.
The most anticipated spinoff is Vought Rising, a series set in the 1950s and featuring Jensen Ackles as Ben/Soldier Boy alongside Aya Cash as Stormfront. At The Boys panel at Comic-Con 2024, showrunner Eric Kripke announced that the spinoff will chronicle how Vought became so powerful and monopolized America.
However, the biggest announcement was that The Boys season 5 will also be the final season of the flagship series. Kripke confirmed that this was his plan from the beginning and that he has the finale ending in mind.
The Boys season 4 ended with a massive cliffhanger, with Butcher getting all the power he ever wanted and most of the title group captured. But the season 5 trailer teases that the Boys will fight back and even hints at a possible reunion between Hughie, Frenchie, MM, and Kimiko. And with Jensen Ackles returning as Soldier Boy, there is no doubt that this will be a high-octane climax. This is especially true considering the series will bring in threads from Gen V, its successful spin-off about young Supes navigating power, corruption, and manipulation at a Vought-sponsored college.
