Marvel Zombies Survivors faced the ultimate undead threat, and some of the top Marvel characters managed to survive the outbreak. A lot of the characters who survive this horde are actually a bunch of zombies. They’re not all evil zombies though, as some of these characters use their undead abilities for the forces of good.
On Earth-2149, the Avengers are infected with a virus that turns them into flesh-eating zombies. Some infected super-powered beings like Zombie Wanda Maximoff can retain their powers if they are fed regularly.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man has been fighting for the survival of his Multiverse brethren since he was recruited by a group of Spider-People from various realities to defeat the Inheritors. During this time, he helped to re-ignite the spark of his love for Mary Jane and saved a future version of himself from being killed by Doctor Octopus. If this zombified Peter Parker appears in the Marvel Zombies spin-off, his Spider-Army could help to bolster the team of Hulk and Groot that represents both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. A zombified version of the Fantastic Four could be another addition to this team as well, with a horrified Otto Octavius acting as their leader.
The zombification virus infects super-powered beings, turning them into a zombie version of themselves. This enables them to travel between dimensions, consuming those who they bite. In the comic, this includes the zombified versions of the Ultimate Fantastic Four, who trick Reed Richards into opening a path to their dimension.
The zombified heroes have also been seen in the pages of Marvel Comics, including an armed and dangerous zombie Hulk who is under the control of the Red Skull. This particular incarnation of the green rage monstrosity has a very hard time quelling his hunger. Other zombified heroes include the Wasp of Earth-2149, who has her own atomic powers and can shrink to insect size, and Colonel America of Earth-2149, who is a severed head attached to a cybernetic body.
Black Panther
The undead have long been a staple in Marvel Comics, but the Marvel Zombies storyline put them front and center for one of the company’s biggest relaunches in years. In addition to the original heroes, a variety of fan favorites also survived the zombie outbreak.
With the Hulk and Groot representing the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s a no-brainer to include Storm as a representation of the X-Men. And her mutant superpowers will be essential to battling the infected as they run rampant around the Multiverse.
T’Challa has a few key survival strategies for a zombie outbreak, starting with his ability to turn into a werewolf. He also possesses the power of regeneration, allowing him to regrow his lost limbs and other organs with relative ease.
In addition, he can use the blood of the infected to strengthen his body. And he has the uncanny ability to see the future, giving him an edge when planning his attacks.
Black Panther’s first appearance was in Fantastic Four #52 (July 1966), part of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s 102-issue run on the title that gave birth to many classic stories. He remained a supporting character in other titles until 1973, when writer Don McGregor asked for Black Panther to be given his own series. Initially, it was meant to be an action thriller but ended up more of a superhero/crime drama mashup.
Okoye
Okoye is a general in Wakanda’s Dora Milaje, which serves as King T’Challa’s royal guard. She is an expert fighter and martial artist. Her Vibranium spear is her weapon of choice and she can easily incapacitate multiple foes at once.
As the leader of the Dora Milaje, Okoye is an extremely loyal and trustworthy warrior. She quickly objects to Erik Killmonger’s challenge for the throne of Wakanda because of his disregard of traditional values and her own unique bond with T’Challa.
After Malice, who was genetically modified by Killmonger, murdered T’Challa’s loved ones and was seeking revenge, Okoye, along with her sisters Akena and Ayo, traveled to America to hunt her down. Okoye is a master strategist and can quickly assemble an army of Wakandan warriors to invade the American continent and defeat any threat.
She also possesses a wide range of skills that help her survive the zombie outbreak. Okoye is an expert pilot and can fly the aircraft that brought T’Challa to Nakia. She is able to communicate with people of various races because of her fluency in several languages, including Xhosa, English, French, and Yucatec Maya.
She also defended the Wakandan Outreach Center when mercenaries attacked it. Okoye displayed her swift abilities when she defended the building against the invaders and deflected multiple bullets with her Vibranium spear.
Magneto
The Master of Magnetism may be one of the most powerful mutants on Earth, but he’s also one of its most dangerous villains. He’s a holocaust survivor who refuses to let his kind suffer another horror, a mindset that has made him one of Marvel’s most morally grey characters.
Despite his megalomaniacal nature, Magneto is a capable leader who has proven himself as an excellent survivalist in many different situations. He’s led the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Acolytes and a number of other groups during his long career. He’s also used his powers to create a force field that provides him with enhanced durability. This allows him to withstand punches from superhumanly strong foes like Namor and Colossus.
Magneto has also been able to use his magnetic powers to manipulate genetics, creating clones and artificial lifeforms. He’s even demonstrated the ability to mutate humans artificially, awakening their “X-gene” powers. This makes him a formidable opponent in any fight.
During the DEAD DAYS storyline, Magneto made a deal with an unknown entity off-panel that brought the zombie plague to this reality. He and the surviving X-Men fought against this threat alongside Nick Fury and the Ultimates. In the process, Magneto managed to singlehandedly hold back hordes of flesh-eating zombies, proving that his skills are more than enough to survive this reality.
